Has consulted to a diverse range of companies and developed a broad understanding of issues within a variety of industries. The skills developed across the breadth of roles include company and staff management, end user and staff training, sales and technical support, hardware and software systems design and management, data conversion and presentation.
Being self employed over the last 10 years has further developed the time management and prioritisation skills and awareness of the importance of industry specific issues such as OH&S, privacy and security.
Whilst having become a ?jack of all trades? as a consultant, repeatedly demonstrating the ability to become the leader in a field throughout the career demonstrates an ability to master and adapt to the job at hand.

The role of IT Systems Manager encompasses responsibility for all facets of IT for Hanesbrands Inc - Australia. A major aspect of the role is the maintenance and support of the organisations Accpac implementation, incorporating GIMS (Grid Inventory Management System) and the Accellos Warehouse Management System. Having developed an in depth understanding of the systems database structure has enabled the creation of a fast and efficient web based reporting system utilising ASP.NET and the development of data import utilities to minimise the amount of data entry for product and price list setup and order entry. The maintenance of Crystal reports has also been an integral part of the position. The role also includes ensuring the Point of Sales system used across the company?s stores was operational and synchronised successfully on a daily basis.
Achievements
Major achievements in the role have included:
- Develop an extensive Intranet for documentation and Accpac reporting for Management, Sales, Customer Service and the Finance departments.
- Develop applications and utilities to convert spread sheet data into formats suitable for importing into Accpac and GIMS.
- Develop a suite of applications and utilities to manage EDI trasactions with major suppliers.
- Develop applications to facilitate the annual stocktake of 10 millions dollars worth of stock.
- Consult with the Hanesbrands Inc?s Head Office in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to incorporate the TNF Group network into the global Hanesbrands network and domain.

Upon returning to Hobart from Cairns commenced a consultative role working for the Tasmanian Government's Managed Networks Program, an initiative providing high-level IT support to Tasmanian Government schools. As this role was part time and diminishing as staff were trained to provide the day to day support, the company was expanded to provided network support and consultative services to a range of corporate and government clients.
The Managed Networks role for the Tasmanian Government involved providing high level IT support and advice to a cluster of schools to ensure that the schools maximised the benefits from their IT infrastructure. It required the development and rolling out of Standard Operating Environments across each schools computer labs and configuring the PC?s and network to ensure a maximum of uptime and a minimum of misuse by the students. In addition to this the initiative was taken to develop a range of web based applications to assist with the administration of the schools.
Providing the IT Support for Tasmania?s premier Bakery involved responding to a diverse range of requests in a very progressive environment. It also meant ensuring that the network and the systems developed and implemented were available 24 hours a day, six days a week. Considerable time was spent managing data gathered from all aspects of the business and developing the tools to make this data available to a range of stakeholders within the organisation. The role also involved being responsible for researching and managing the implementation of accounting software to replace the organisation?s AS400 system.
In additional to providing application support and network infrastructure support and administration for Hobart Eye Surgeons, responsibility also extended to managing the IT and communications aspects of an office relocation and for ensuring that the migration to a new medical practise system was successful with minimal impact on the business.
Achievements
As the ?go to? person for anything remotely IT for Tasmania?s premier bakery, some of the achievements were to:
- Design and develop touch screen allocation and packing systems, greatly improving the accuracy and profitability of the company?s dispatch area.
- Design and develop PDA based receipting for drivers increasing accuracy and avoiding double entry.
- Design and develop Web based sales analysis tools for Sales Reps and Management.
- Implement and maintain the Windows based network requiring a 24x6 uptime.
- Develop a TimeClock application with complex shift allowance processor.
- Develop and maintain data migration utilites between the organisations various systems.
Whilst consulting to the Tasmanian Government?s Managed Networks Program, performed the following tasks:
- Configured and maintained several school networks with ?student proof? security.
- Develop tools to provide attempted security breach monitoring and reporting.
- Develop web based reporting systems and administrative tools.
- Managed and trained junior network support staff to provide ongoing network support.

Returned to Sleebs Computers Hobart as the Customer Service Manager after the existing management team resigned and bought into an opposition company. At the time, the Service department had become run down and operated at a financial loss to the company. Within several months of rejoining Sleebs, established a dedicated Help Desk for call logging, tracking and escalation, and rebuilt the team of engineers with fresh, qualified staff. In the process, the department became a profitable, delivering a much higher level and quality of service than previously offered.
Following the resignation of the State Manager in October 1997, moved into the role of State Manager. Although not increasing the turnover (approx $11 million) of the company in this time, the profitability increased dramatically with an improved structure and better stock control. This was during a time of increased competition, and ever shrinking margins on computer hardware.

Joinined Potter Warburg Asset Management when the IT department was in its infancy. Of the five staff, three were involved in maintaining the companies Unitholder Registry database on DEC Vax?s. The role was to support and standardise the Novell PC network, comprised at the time of approximately 50 PC?s, and to provide PC support and training for all users. In December ?93, the company relocated its office, which afforded the opportunity to fully restructure the network, and to be involved in the overall relocation project. Shortly before this time, the Vax Administrator left which presented the opportunity for several months of VMS administration whilst a replacement was located.
As the network and support team had expanded and was running smoothly the opportunity to move into a Project Management role was accepted. This incorporated programming and systems developmentand included many additional challenges, providing a better understanding of the financial industry. The systems development environment was PowerBuilder and Sybase, allowing the development of Object Oriented programming skills. Prior to moving into the Project Management role, the network had grown to over 100 PC?s, 5 Compaq SystemPro file Servers, 2 DEC Alpha?s, and incorporated an ISDN voice & data link to the Sydney office.

Niche Technology was established as the importing and wholesale arm of Sleebs Computers. The company imported and assembled a range of PC products, including computers, monitors and a wide range of multi media components.
As the company was founded shortly before commencement, tasks involved setting up and implementing the forms and procedures to allow the company to run smoothly and successfully.
As well as evaluating products for the company to sell, responsibilty was also for the sales and marketing of these products, including the establishment of dealers around Australia. Other duties included ensuring that all products are fully documented with marketing, sales, and support information.

Responsible for the supervision of three support staff as Technical Support Manager and for ensuring that Sleebs Computers maintained a high level of professionalism and support in its technical service department. The role involved considerable education of junior staff in order to raise their skill levels and professionalism. As the senior technician, was primarily responsible for the company?s CAD, network and Unix/Xenix sites. During this time attended courses conducted by the company?s major suppliers, including Compaq, ComTech, Microsoft, Novell and Autodesk. As the company began to focus more on the emerging networking technology, became more involved in the pre sales, sales, and support of network installations.
Along with many single server sites, was responsible for the sales and implementation of several large state-wide wide area networks, including the Trust Bank of Tasmania, the Department of Construction, and project managed the installation of over three hundred computers for Tasmanian TAFE.

The National Accounts/Sales Support role involved handling dealer sales enquires and assisting the dealers to sell into corporate and government accounts. The support of the dealers was in both sales and technical capacities and was frequently called upon to answer tenders and demonstrate AutoCAD in product suitability evaluations and comparisons. On numerous occasions this involved public speaking and presentations. Due to the level of sales/technical experience, was also heavily involved in dealer training, training both sales and technical staff in their respective areas.
The technical experience gained at Sleebs Computers led to involvement in the implementation of Autodesk?s in-house network and database strategies, including the installation of a TCP/IP network, E-mail system and the design of the company's end-user database. Developed several applications for AutoDesk, including a lead tracking and allocation database and a diskette label printing and recording system for the manufacturing department.

Began working for Sleebs Computer Industries in 1983 as a Computer Operator. In this position, the duties involved shift work, working as the sole operator, running batch jobs and performing COBOL programming maintenance on the company's Perkin Elmer 3230.
After nine months in this position, began working in the company?s newly emerging Microcomputer department. This involved the selling, supporting and development of microcomputer systems.
Although selling and supporting a wide range of applications, and developing database systems in several popular software packages of the day, the primary area of involvement became Computer Aided Design & Drafting, principally AutoCAD.
In late ?86, while still working for Sleebs Computers, commenced part time (evening) lecturing at Swinburne College of TAFE. At the time was also responsible for the College in a sales and support capacity. Took up the part time lecturing role when asked by the college to develop and lecture courses in AutoCAD, primarily LISP programming and advanced customisation. These courses and the notes were added to the syllabus and became part of the standard training material and curriculum.
Developed CAMPAC, a Computer Numeric Control (CNC) system, whilst providing support for Swinburne College of TAFE. CAMPAC was developed to take advantage of AutoCAD's newly emerging 3D capabilities. Applications developed in LISP code within AutoCAD allowed CNC tool paths to be generated automatically. A post processor was developed to convert these tool paths to CNC code for CNC milling machines and lathes.
Achievements

- Develop a CNC suite of utilities for the college to sell and market nationally.
